Best beaches in Tenerife

Beaches in Tenerife are very diverse; “wild”, intimate and typically touristic. Depending on whether you like a large number of tourists, pubs, beach clubs or you prefer quiet, peaceful places, you can choose the perfect areas for sunbathing. The previously mentioned “wild” coasts have their supporters among nudists. Most often in this type of area live the so-called local hippies who live in caves or put up tents on the slopes. Here you will find the best beaches in Tenerife at our discretion.

In Tenerife, we will discover a variety of beaches, ranging from light golden sand to almost black coasts. It is similar with the structure of the terrain – soft sand or rocky ground. However, Tenerife’s original beaches are dark and rocky, the golden shores were created by importing sand from other countries. On the island there are natural pools formed from solidified volcano lava. However, these are not beaches, but also recreational areas where we can take a bath in the water coming from the ocean. Tenerife surprises with a wealth of choice, it only remains to discover their charms!

It is a beach that you have probably already had the opportunity to admire in many postcards or in guides about Tenerife. A beach with sand from the Sahara – perhaps this phrase has already hit your ears. That’s right, the sand has been specially imported to create this delightful tourist attraction. Remember that most of the natural beaches in Tenerife have dark sand, so if you are in favor of golden shades, you will meet your expectations! In addition to the aesthetic values, it is worth mentioning the functionality of the area. There are plenty of beach bars, sun loungers and umbrellas for rent.

Playa Jardin

The most interesting beach in Puerto de la Cruz. Jardin in Spanish means garden, and the name refers to the characteristics of the place. Playa Jardin is surrounded by stately gardens filled with a wide variety of cacti, palm trees and other exotic plant species. The place has been designed to be disabled-friendly through its facilities and properly constructed communication. Parents will also be pleased. There are several playgrounds for children on site. The area is richly equipped with showers, changing rooms, bars and the possibility of renting sunbeds. It is one of the safest beaches in Tenerife due to the effective care of lifeguards.

Playa de Benijo

It is located at the very tip of the northern part of Tenerife, just behind the Anagi Mountains. It is one of the most spectacular beaches in Tenerife. This is due to two amazing rock formations emerging from the ocean: Roque Benijo and Roque La Rapadura. As it is definitely a less touristic place, the beach retains its unspoiled charm. A great alternative for people looking for “wild” areas on a very touristic island which is Tenerife. In summer, there is an average number of visitors here, while in winter, the beaches are visited by very few. Probably the reason is its location. To reach Playa de Benijo, we have to go around the Anaga mountain range, however, it is as delightful and charming as the Benijo beach itself.

It is a wide, pebble beach in some places, located on a charming promenade. Almost always, the ocean in this place is restless. It is a great place to admire the sunsets, the sound of the waves and, of course, the feats of these surfers.

Playa de Troya

The beach is located between two of the best clubs in Tenerife. It combines the exclusive Papagayo with the good old Monkey Beach Club. Both places are very popular during the day and at night. The beach itself does not stand out from the others, it is mainly large, with slightly darker sand.

Playa de Fańabe

It is an extension of the previous beach. Dark sand, medium waves. This beach is distinguished by lots of chiringuitos (beach bars). You can meet many more young people here than on the other beaches. The place, especially its central part, is ideal for people who avoid peace and quiet. Rather recommended for people looking for thrills and fun. If you like club music, we recommend visiting Le Club on Fańabe beach.

Playa del Duque

Prince’s Beach, which is a real gem on the list of Tenerife beaches. Associated with a high standard and luxury. It is surrounded by exclusive restaurants, shopping centers and hotels. Right next to it you will find a characteristic, extraordinary castle. The beach is rich in fine, light sand, and the color of the water here takes on beautiful shades of blue and turquoise. Quite strong waves are often an attraction for tourists. An interesting architectural detail that gives the “Hawaiian” character of the beach are the shredded bamboo umbrellas.

There are free toilets and paid showers. Despite the fee for sunbeds and umbrellas, tourists are happy to fill them. Unfortunately, due to the large amount of wealthy tourists staying in this place, there is a large amount of sellers: blankets, glasses, donuts, fruit, jewelry, watches etc…

Playa de la Enramada

The beach is located at the very end of the promenade which is stretching from Los Cristianos to the end of Costa Adeje. It is rather one of the quieter beaches where we shouldn’t meet crowds of people. The perfect place to watch beautiful sunsets. Best beaches in Los Gigantes

Playa la Arena

Playa de los Guios

Los Gigantes is a coastal town named after Acantilados de los Gigantes. Huge cliffs that reach heights of 300 to 600 meters. It is at their feet that the unique Playa de los Guios lies. Tenerife’s beaches are usually open and spacious. Therefore, the most impressive thing about Los Guíos beach is undoubtedly the fantastic view of the majestic Los Gigantes cliffs, forming a huge “wall” of unusual rock formations. The ocean in this part of the island is usually calm and the area is free from strong winds. In addition, the beach is partially protected by the fishing port of Los Gigantes and the cliffs themselves. However, you always need to be aware of the sea state and the color of the flag flying on the beach. The beach is small and completely natural, with dark and very fine volcanic sand.
